Duck Hunting Photography

A couple photographs from a recent duck hunting trip to Ontario, Canada. What a pleasure it is to spend time with friends in places like this. The best weather for duck hunting is what everyone else would classify as bad weather. It increases your chances of getting ducks, but visually, it also puts on a show. During a storm, the way a marsh looks can change a hundred different times in one sitting, if you’re lucky. And for someone who has the patience to not hunt, watching mother nature is just as much fun as the hunting itself. There really is nothing like it.

Vancouver Island Photography Prints

Although the camera allows me to earn a living, I still consider it a hobby as well. A few weeks ago Emily and I took a last minute trip to Vancouver Island. We hung out in Victoria for a few days, then drove up to the small surfing town of Tofino (more on that in the next post). All along the way there is so much to see, including rainforests. We took a couple casual strolls through them, camera in hand, without any expectations or plans to shoot. Now, I’d never classify myself as a “nature” or “landscape” photographer. I’m just a photographer. Meaning that making pictures pleases me. Pictures of anything. Doesn’t matter if the images will ever be seen, published, or licensed. The act alone is reward. Especially when it comes to subjects like the rainforest. No idea what will be done with these, but so what? One of the many things I’ve learned over the years, is you don’t have to know. Maybe they won’t go anywhere. Or maybe this is the start of something that won’t be realized for years to come. Either way, they were fun to make. It’s only natural being inspired to make images in places like this, as it feels more like being in a science fiction movie than it did real life.

Roadtrip

Was back out on the road earlier this month. This time it was up to Canada for a snowboarding trip with a stop in Beaverton for a meeting with Nike. More on that later. About 2 years ago I realized that snowboarding is the only that will take the camera out of my hands. During any other activity I'm happy to watch from the sidelines just so I can shoot. On snowboarding trips though, the camera unfortunately spends too much time in the bag. I'm alright with that.  A weird thing happens on those trips though, because the itch still needs to be scratched. I can't not shoot for any extended amount of time or I turn into a prick. Especially on the road because you see images everywhere, which are hard to pass up. So I start looking for images in other places. Thus the reason for a completely random mash-up of images in this blogpost.
